Dexter Whitaker, co-owner of KODA is no stranger to the oil and gas
industry. His father worked in the field and Dexter had his first job as
a Roughneck when he was only 16 years old. In 1964 Dexter drilled the
first of many oil wells that he would personally own an interest in.
Owner, Operator, Investor and Equipment Salesman are a few of the many
titles Dexter has claimed in his history with the oil and gas industry.
It was during the time Dexter was trading oil and gas equipment that he
discovered his interest and passion for pumping units.
One day Dexter was complaining to a friend in the business that he could
not find any quality pumping units to buy. His friend said, “Why don’t
you just build one.” So he did. In 1976 Dexter founded Whitaker
Manufacturing which sold $40 million dollars in Pumping Units between 1980
and 1984.
Due to the oil crash of the 1980’s the need for Pumping Units slowed and
Whitaker Manufacturing closed.
With the increase of oil and gas exploration in the continental United
States, Dexter and an associate decided it was time to start producing
Pumping Units again. In February 2007 KODA Pumping Units, Inc. was
founded and Dexter got to build the Pumping Unit he always dreamed of
building.
“This unit is stout and the Bearing train is just better,” Dexter said, when asked about his new design.
“I have been doing this for over 40 years and I know what operators need. They need a dependable unit that will sustain the trials of the field and still deliver maximum production and that is exactly what the KODA Pumping Unit will do.”
